In August of 1988, Beverly started A Sign By Design, Inc. with less than $2,000 of seed money in the bedroom of her home.
Beverly has overcome adversity, exhibited good business strategies and has weathered three recessions over 23 years of business. Her retention of talented people reflects how she values here employees and their families. She has gone from being a single mother on food stamps, to being an employer of more than 35 talented people. She recognized early on, in order to succeed in a predominately male industry, she would have to work harder and smarter. She is now recognized as one of the top women business owners and ranked number three in the commercial sign industry in Indianapolis. A Sign By Design is currently ranked third in the Indianapolis Business Journal’s Book of Lists in the sign category.
In 2009, the IBJ recognized A Sign By Design as one of the top 25 women owned businesses. Beverly was a Blue Chip Business Award winner in 2008. In addition to being named the 2010 Woman Business Owner of the Year awarded by the National Association of Woman Business Owners.
She continues to be a leader in the Indianapolis area as a successful woman business owner by being a role model for many aspiring women. In 2009, Beverly founded LPPA (Ladies Professional Partnership Alliance). Their mission is to “Help Each Other Learn and Grow as Business-Women. The alliance’s purpose is to help members obtain the skills necessary to achieve their business and personal goals. Their platform is to “Pay it Forward”.
